Why Your Ragdoll Cat Should Not Go Outside

Outdoor cats face many dangers around your home; these dangers are not worth the enjoyment your Ragdoll might receive from chasing a bug or sitting on your lawn. Ragdoll cats are exclusively indoor cats; they don’t have the backyard smarts to defend against another animal or get away from a speeding automobile.

Ragdolls are by nature affectionate and trusting animals. This makes them the best pet you could hope for; however, it doesn’t help them against predators. Not to mention unscrupulous would-be catnappers that want to sell your cat to the nearest research facility. Your Ragdoll cat could be lost, stolen, or harmed by the evil kid down the street. Outdoor cats are also susceptible to many more diseases than indoor cats. These include feline leukemia, distemper, and respiratory infections that can be fatal for cats.

Your Ragdoll cat has silky, rabbit like fur that requires very little maintenance on your part. This fur is not well-suited for the outdoors. It attracts insects and parasites that can transmit life threatening diseases. Your cat can also catch other parasites by coming in contact with small animals. These parasites include tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and heartworms.

As a Ragdoll owner you can cat-proof your home to prevent injury to your cat. You cannot cat-proof the outdoors and there are many dangers lurking around every corner. Your cat can come in contact with fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and other toxic chemicals such as antifreeze. Antifreeze has a sweet taste and is deadly to cats. Did I mention evil little children?

Your Ragdoll cat relies on you for its care and safety. PLEASE keep your Ragdoll cat indoors.
