Does your Ragdoll cat or kitten play too rough? Why does your Ragdoll play rough and what can you do about it? Here are some tips to help you deal with your Ragdoll’s roughhousing behaviors.

Before you can find a way to stop this behavior in your Ragdoll you need to identify what is causing it. There are several reasons your cat may be playing rough; aggression comes from behavioral conditioning, the environment your cat lives in, heredity, and medical reasons.

The most common reason why cats attack their owners is because they want attention. This is a behavior learned from interaction with their owners. You may be inadvertently rewarding your Ragdoll cat for this behavior with attention or treats. It takes a while to condition your cat to an unwanted behavior; unfortunately, it can also take a long time to train your Ragdoll not to behave a certain way.

Another possibility for your Ragdoll cat’s aggression could be his or her personality. Cats inherit their personalities from their parents; while it is possible to train a cat despite their personality, some cats just don’t like people. Another factor than can contribute to aggression is the environment your Ragdoll cat lives in. Cats can become aggressive with their humans when they are bored or stressed. There are many things that can stress your cat including a dirty litter box, an empty food bowl, or other pets in your home.

Sometimes a medical condition could be contributing to your Ragdoll cat’s aggressive behaviors. Cat hyperactivity and aggressive behaviors can be caused by certain conditions related to thyroid functions. If you have ruled out the other contributing factors for aggressive behaviors you should have your veterinarian examine your Ragdoll for medical conditions.
