Vaccinations are an extremely important part of your Ragdoll cat’s immune development. Some pet owners/parents proudly proclaim that they do not believe in vaccinations for their pets and/or children. Not only is this stupid, but it is also irresponsible. Please do not deprive your pets and/or children the opportunity for good health that vaccinations provide.

By the time you received your Ragdoll kitten, the breeder should have given the first shots. Make sure you get a shot record from the breeder and provide it to your veterinarian. Your Ragdoll cat will need vaccinations against feline distemper, rabies, feline leukemia, and certain respiratory infections. Most veterinarians say these vaccinations should start between the ages of six and eight weeks of age. The full course of vaccinations that your Ragdoll kitten needs will have to be administered over the course of several weeks. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $200-$300 in the veterinarian’s office for these shots. You may be able to find shot clinics at local pet supply stores that can provide the shots for little or no charge.

Vaccinations protect against the following diseases:

Caliciviral Disease: a common respiratory infection in cats. Given between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks with a booster at 12 months.

Rabies: a highly contagious viral disease that affects any warm blooded animal. Vaccinations are given between the ages of 12 to 16 weeks with a booster every 12 or 36 months.

Feline Distemper: a fatal viral infection in cats. Vaccinations are given between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks with a booster at 12 months.

Feline Leukemia: Vaccinations are given between the ages of 10 to 14 weeks.

Rhinotrachetis: Another viral respiratory infection. Vaccinations are given between the ages of 8 to 10 weeks with a booster at 12 months.

Chlamydiosis, or Pneumonitis: Vaccinations are given between the ages of 6 to 10 weeks with a booster at 12 months.
