Toilet Train Your Ragdoll Cat
Dec 7th, 2005 by Rob
Ragdoll cats are very intelligent animals and can be trained. You can train your Ragdoll to use the toilet instead of the litter box. The advantage of this is you will save money and will not have to clean a litter box. Your house will also not smell like the litter box. There are kits you can purchase for training; however, you can train your cat without one of these kits. To get started you will need some metal foil, a flushable cat litter, and an aluminum cooking pan.
For toilet training your cat you will need to leave the toilet seat down with the lid up. It is best to use the toilet in a spare bathroom and you may want to leave a note for any guests that might visit the bathroom. The cooking pan should be small enough to fit inside the toilet. To begin training replace your cat’s litter box with the aluminum cooking pan and move it near the toilet. You will need to gradually raise the pan to the height of the toilet. This needs to be done securely so the pan will not tip over while your cat is using it. Once the pan is level with the toilet you are ready to begin training.
Secure the tray inside the toilet and show your cat where the tray has been moved. After your Ragdoll cat has adjusted to the idea of using the tray inside the toilet cut a 1” hole in the tray’s bottom. Each week increase the holes diameter by one inch. The goal in creating the hole is to have your cat standing on the seat with all four paws. After you cat has adjusted to standing on the seat for several weeks you can remove the pan.
