Here is a list of ten things you can do to minimize stress in your Ragdoll cat’s life.
1. Give your Ragdoll space. Just like humans, Ragdoll cats need a little personal space to be comfortable in.
2. Ragdoll cats need quality time. No matter how hectic your lifestyle, this is especially important around the holidays, make time to spend with your cat. Invest a little time and attention in your Ragdoll and you will see the difference.
3. Be consistent in your interactions. Always interact in a positive, happy way with your Ragdoll cat. Your tone of voice is how your cat learns your mood. Always try to be cheerful and pleasant when interacting with your pet.
4. Never punish or scold your Ragdoll cat. No matter how irritated and frustrated you become never take your anger out on your cat. This can make unwanted behaviors even worse. Never, ever hit your cat. They don’t understand punishment and this will only cause them to fear you.
5. Beware the playground bully. When you have more than one cat in your household make sure the bully isn’t terrorizing the little cat. This is especially true with kittens, be sure and give them a separate area away from the bullies.
6. Avoid loud noises. Loud noises cause stress for cats. Your Ragdoll cat has sensitive ears and loud noises from cars, stereos, and televisions can wreak havoc on your cat’s ears.
7. Play with your Ragdoll cat everyday. Playing games with your cat offset boredom and do wonders to reduce stressors. Take ten minutes and play a game with your cat’s favorite toy.
8. Don’t use strong perfume around your Ragdoll. Cats have very strong sense of smell. What smells good to you may be offensive or overpowering to your cat.
9. Use premium cat foods. Proper nutrition is an important part of your cat’s health. Illness and lack of proper nutrition can stress your Ragdoll cat. Check with your veterinarian to ensure you are providing the proper nutrition for your Ragdoll.
10. Keep an eye on your cat’s well-being. Watch for signs of stress. Things like repetitive pacing, grooming in excess, or pulling fur out of the coat indicate stress. If this is happening regularly consult your veterinarian.
