Ragdoll Cats

by Rob on April 4, 2010

Ragdolls are large blue-eyed cats with semi longhaired coats. Their coats come in colors ranging from seal, blue, chocolate and lilac. Ragdolls are pointed cats; points come as bi colored, colorpoint or mitted. Ragdolls have silky coats that require little grooming.

Ragdolls are the largest breed of domestic cats. Ragdoll males weigh in between 12 to 20 pounds. The females weigh in between 10 to 15 pounds.

Ragdoll cats are famous for their docile and affectionate temperaments. They are easily the most easy going and gentle breed of domestic cat. Ragdoll cats are not aggressive and should be kept indoors as they typically will not defend themselves if provoked by another animal or a nasty child.

The term “Ragdoll” comes from the way they relax and go completely limp when held.

Hi:

We have a 6 month sealpoint bicolor boy ragdoll – his name is Oliver and we love him. Our problem is that he occasionally bites and goes on wild tears around the house knocking things over, etc. We are retired and spend a great deal of time with him. He is affectionate and does follow us around, etc. Is this a kitten thing? he will be neutered in a couple of weeks, will this change his behaviour?

Thank you we look forward to a response

Hi Shirley,

It does sound like a kitten thing he will grow out of. Neutering might calm him down a little; however, it might take him as much as a year to get over that kitten stuff.

For Shirley Lambert:
The dashing around the house is a kitten and young cat thing.
When mine was young, I used to say that I should have
named him, “90 per” because he raced around the house
at about 90 mph.
But he grew out of it.
Now follows me everywhere, but sedately.
