If you are having a problem with your Ragdoll cat spraying your walls and furniture, here are some tips to help you correct the problem. Your Ragdoll could be spraying for a variety of reasons, finding that reason is the first step to solving the problem.
The first thing you should do is make sure there is not a medical reason contributing to this behavior by having your Ragdoll cat examined by the veterinarian. Your Ragdoll cat sprays for a variety of reasons; some common reasons including marking territory, communicating with other cats, or simply trying to get your attention.
If you have more than one cat or even a dog in your home it is possible your Ragdoll is spraying because of conflict or even rivalry between your pets. Separating your pets until the tension cools off may be a solution to this problem. When you have a spraying problem it is important to clean the area with an enzyme based cleaner to remove all traces of smell from the area. If you do not eliminate the odor your cat may re-spray the area because of the smell. Enzyme based cleaners for treating urine stains are available from your local pet supply store.
If your veterinarian has checked out your Ragdoll cat and given a clean bill of health, the only alternative to correct the spraying problem may be to spay or neuter your cat. Nearly all cats that have problems with spraying stop after being spayed or neutered. Your veterinarian may be able to offer alternatives to try and correct the spraying; however, spaying and neutering works almost every time. There are added health benefits to spaying and neutering your cat. Incidents of many types of cancer are greatly reduced or eliminated by spaying or neutering your Ragdoll cat.
