Hello, to all those people who have ragdoll cats and feel they are not as affectionate as you expected them to be, I can give you a few suggestions. This comes from my own experience with my now 8 month old blue Tabby ragdoll. We bought him when he was 4 months old and for the first few weeks he would hide under the futon all the time and come out just to eat and would run back in. I was initially very worried, but one thing that got us closer was playing, you need to spend a lot of time playing with your cat without trying to pick him up . It really strengthens the bond and builds trust. Initially all they want to do is play and not have anything with bonding. My kitten loved a fish toy that hung from a string and I would hold it out for him to try and catch . Slowly once he starts playing with you and trusts you, start petting him without trying to lift him up and stop if he shows signs of not liking it. These cats love tummy and chin rubs and also their paws being fondled. You can also hand feed his wet food for him to get used to your smell . You can use anything from crushed up paper balls to inexpensive cat toys to play with your cat . But dont try to force him to be with you, he will just associate it with something bad. Your ragdoll if treated with patience and lots of love will soon want to be with you all the time. My little guy in a few weeks started following me everywhere including the bathroom and always wants to be with me , atleast in the same room and wants to be carried around like a baby and even rides with us in the car. I taught him to play fetch in couple of weeks and now can “sit” and “stand” on command. He never used to sleep with me until recently but now he does. So what I am saying is all this did not happen overnight , each cat takes his/her own time. Just be patient and make sure u and your cat spend a lot of time together and most often it’ll be in your cats terms and not yours!

Hello i have a weird question. I am trying to wait untill my female is 1 year before breeding but i already have a 7 month old male ragdoll and a 4 month old female ragdoll, he has been trying to mount her and i do not want him to. Is is possible he could get her pregnant? Should i keep them locked in different rooms untill my female is of age? Im new to this. Thanks

We need help, we have a beautiful male/fixed Ragdoll cat that has trust issues with people. I will give a little background on him, he was found outside when he was about 3 months old, then the people took him in that had 7 other cats and 2 dogs do he didn’t get special attention,we took him to see if we could turn things around, we have had him 3months and have tried many things i will not go into detail, but any suggestions might be one we have not tried. He has come a long way but we can only get up to about 1 foot of him and t hen he takes off. We just love him but want to touch him and do what we do with our other 2 cats especially for medical care and we don’t want any more stress on him at this point, he has no problem with the other cats he really seems to like them it’s just people.

Having just purchased an older Ragdoll, i wonder about her meowing morning and night. We have only had her for two weeks and she is settling in well but could the meowing and walking all around the house be because she is looking for her brother. She had a brother and a small dog living with her. Her elderly owner could not take the animals with her when relocating to smaller place so hence had to sell them.

I have had my Ragdoll for a couple of months and she still seems scared of me and will not let me pick her up or rub her when she comes near me. She does sleep with me and will let me rub her when we are both laying in bed. How can I get her to come to me, let me pick her up, and let me rub her when she comes near me?

I have a 1 year old male ragdoll who is very shy. Every time I reach down to pet him he backs away and runs. Also, if there is anyone new in the house he runs away and hides in any small area that he can fit. I bought a ragdoll specifically for their “people friendly attitude” and “dog like characteristics” but this hasn’t proven to be true for me. I thought he was just acting skiddish and would grow out of it, but a year later he is still the same. Any suggestions?

It is very likely that your ragdoll is in heat. Any cat goes into heat at approx. 6 months of age. If you plan on breeding her, I would get some training and advice first- check with TICA breeders. You will need to get registered and understand the expense involved to make it a responsible investment for you. If you randomly breed her, you will not be able to sell the kittens as Ragdolls, since she is already mixed with Himilayan. Please keep her inside until you get her fixed or breed her, (inside either way). I personally feel she should get spayed (fixed) as soon as possible, or she may get out of the house is search of a mate and end up lost, hit by a car or stolen. Many people know the value of special breed cats and steal them to sell. Ragdolls do not have the ability to defend themselves (against other cats or other animals)and are very trusting, therefore they must be kept indoors to survive. Genetically, speaking, no one has any way of knowing if the Himilayan traits will protect her. I would not take the chance. If this is not her first heat she will go into heat soon, after the first, at the rate of 2-3 times a year. Her softer meowing may be one of two reasons; she is in the beginning of her heat, or the nature of her breed is non-agressive/not quite as loud. Has she had her immunizations? Either way, if you want to keep this kitty healthy take her to a Vet. As soon as possible, then make your decision. Hope this has helped.

Hi I have an 8 month old ragdoll/ himilayan cross female cat. She has never been outside and recently she tries to get out every chance she can and once she is outside she starts mewing but doesn not mew in the house. Could it be she is in heat. She is not overly affectionate compared to usual but I find this very strange or is it just because it is spring? I have not seen her in heat yet unless this is it. If I take her to a stud will she go into heat? Also can this breed be a successful outside cat? There was a mouse in our house, we were not even aware of it and my husband saw her playing with what he thought was one of her toys and it was a real mouse she had caught.
