Heather, expect your cat to get used to you and the house. Hopefully he is by now. Be consistent with the feeding and greeting your cat the same way. The older the cat the longer it takes. I've owned cats for 35 yrs, ragdolls, main coons, and domestics...adopted as kittens or adults...they all take up to a year to really get comfortable as long as the routine is consistent. Cat personalities also can change as they age and if they are neutered (for males usually for the better.)
As for the hair shedding, my ragdolls hardly shed. If you are interested in finding out how, the secret is in a raw food diet. It will also help people with allergies. Pets 4 Life has a great website with lots of links.
Also, be careful of giving the rabies vaccine with the others...they should be staggered since urinary infections or other complications can occur. Many vets have not been updated by this research. Homeopathic Thuya should always be given after vaccines.
Hope you enjoy your ragdolls - they are simply the sweetest (and yes the kittens can be crazy) but they are so cute...
Cheers

I have had my ragdoll cat for just over 2 years a male called Benson. He is only 7kgs ut still big he is adorable but likes biting feet and hands and sometimes not docile at all. I researched the coat and believe me they do moult a lot I am always covered in white fluff another problem I have had with him it peeing on my beds. He follows me everywhere and is always waiting for me when I get home from work at the door. He sleeps in my bed with me but is definatly not a lap cat perferring to be nearby. He is also always looking for food and a fussy eater. I love him to bits and is very different than any other cat I have had to those who are thinking of buying one I would recommend it but be prepared for a lot of cats hairs everywhere

please help. My friend has just purchased 2 ragdoll kittens, 1 is for me as a moiving away/ housewarming gift, which is truly kind of her, I had never heard of this breed before and am so excited to be getting her.I have seen pictures of the kittens, and they look adorable with bright blue eyes, but, they are a very dark brown almost black colour, no other markings or colours that i can see, and so far what i have seen surfing the net today, they dont seem to appear to be Ragdolls! I hope I am wrong, can they be born with 1 colouring then change over time?

please reply soon as I dont wnat my friend ripped off!

Regards

I just recently got a Ragdoll kitten that is currently 5 months old from a Breeder and he is exactly what every article says about Ragdoll. He's loving, energitic, sweet, greets me at the door every time I come back home from work or anywhere, follow me around the house, attacks my feet and hands, loves to lick my feet (toes) and hands, cries out loud if he doesn't see me when I'm home (especially when I'm in the restroom showering or whenever the door is closed), goes limp when I pick him up, sleeps on his back, roll over when he wants a belly rub, and listens when I call his name. He's the best. I was planning to get a Maine Coon cat because I love big/large cats, but I accidentally stumble upon a Ragdoll Breeder website and read about Ragdoll and fell inlove with one. The only think I hope for my Ragdoll is that I hope he goes old with me and grow to be over if not close to 20 lbs. LOLz...Hello to all the other Ragdoll parents out there.

I bought a ragdoll cat three days ago. I was so excited to bring him home and love on him. I couldn't wait to have this sweet companion with me following me around the house. Well when I went to pick him up he was huge....not a kitten-kitten. He was 20 weeks old. The picture I was sent and had put a non-refundable deposit on was a much smaller kitten. This cat does not like us at all . He is a ragdoll but so far does not have the temperament like all the articles I have read. I am so disappointed! Do you think this will change? Do you think over time he will get use to us and be like that loving ragdoll I had hoped for? Please help!

Ragdolls are such a joy to live with!! Sadly, last year,we too had to put my daughters' beloved Lynx Point Ragdoll, Martin down due to kidney failure. The vet told us this was quite common in Ragdolls themselves. I don't know if this is true, but we miss Marty alot, and will never find another precious kitty like him. It is lonely with out him,he was such a wonderful cat. I love all cats in general, but Ragdolls are truly specail!

We recently had to have our Ragdoll put down. He wasn't even 3 years old. He had an enlarged heart and a bloodclot on his spine. The vet said this is quite common in the Persian breeds. We miss him terribly and our house seems empty without him.
