Hi, I have a new Ragdoll kitten, Isabeau, and I am trying to make some home-made toys for her.
We got her a stuffed animal with a bell and feathers on the end of a rubber string and a stick. I stuck the stick into a drawer to hold it so she could play with it and in a few minutes she had the string wrapped around her neck, she almost killed herself, so I am staying away from toys with strings.

I found out that my ragdoll loves elastics, but they are dangerous. She tried to eat one once. Sometimes I we play with elastics together, but I take them away before she has a chance to eat it. She likes to tug on the elastic as I put a little resistance on it.

My ragdoll, TJ, loves to play with shoe laces! I keep extra ones on hand for her and when she wants to play, she picks it up in her mouth and drags it around the house. So adorable!

She also loves to play with grapes and corks when they fall on the floor.

I sometimes tie a sturdy piece of 1/8" elastic around my ankle
with about 2 ft trailing off from behind. Wherever I go...they
chase me and pounce on it....I can only go so far before they
lose gip and it snaps back to me (without hurting me) and the chase is on.
Actually my siamese cat taught ME this...I had an old terrycloth
bathrobe and as it wore thin, he'd manage to pull threads from it that would dangle from the hemline when I walked and drive him crazy. Realizing that was NOT SAFE (he could bite them off and swallow them) I came up with this alternative.
WARNING....don't wear it in the kitchen while cooking...could
be dangerous for both of you.

Our Ragdoll loves to play with my big blush/powder face (Cosmetic)brush. He carries it everywhere and plays with it on hours. He'll bring it to me sometimes to toss so he can attack it "on the prowl"

Our two rags play fetch with a wadded up piece of paper, too. It's the BEST THING EVER. I've also made a toy from an empty paper towel tube by covering the ends with tape and cutting a few small holes in the tube then stuffing some treats inside. The treats make a tempting noise as they rattle around when the cats push or bat the tube. It keeps my Sparrow absorbed for hours, until he manages to shake the last treat free. And dragging anything on a long string is another surefire toy.

Milk bottle ring to fetch? And retrieve? You got to be kidding! That is until one day I tossed a ring across the room for Rosita, our 6 month Seal Bi-Color Ragdoll, to chase. But, she returned it to my feet. OK, we'll do it again. And again. She will fetch and return for as long as my wife and/or I will take the time with her. We now use baby teething rings which are more durable and will roll further, being heavier.

An empty toilet paper roll is a fun toy. My cat loves scrunchies too, except that he tries to pull them out of my hair to play with them!!
small hair ties aren't safe... i agree... but they also make the big fat ones for people with thick hair and the cloth scrunchies... my ragdoll LOVES to play with these... they give him hours of enjoyment and when I need to put my hair up there is never a hair tie far away :)

A small hair tie isn't safe for your cat they could choke on it.
But you could use a new pencil because it's blut at both ends and wont hurt your cat.

You will need about 8 little cat bells and some wool.

Cut off about 20cms of wool and thread 4 of your bells on to the wool and tie a knot to make it in to handle for you.
Then cut of another 20cms 4 times and tie it to those 4 bells on to the bells on the handle and then atach bells to the bottom end of the wool thats hanging down and your finished.
Get a big ball of wool and a book.
Then undo some of the wool and place the end of the wool in the middle of the front cover of the book. Wrap the wool around the book but if u want your cats toy to be really small only wrap thhe wool around about 15 to 20 times but if u want it to be nice and big wrap it around the book about 40 to 45 times.

And then it can be your pets pet and I call it a Warm Fuzzy.

Don't use tinfoil for any cat toys. They chew off little pieces and swallow them and it will cut up their insides, due to it being sharp metal. My cats love this little pouch i sewed for thim with a piece of scrap fleece and i stuffed it with paper balls and cat nip. They LOVED it! also i took a nice sized box and cut holes in it with a littler hole for them to stick their paws through. They will play with this for hours together!

Well.

Scrunch up news paper into a medium sized ball and stuff a long sock half way with it. Tie it closed with some string and drag across the floor, cats love it.

A tennis Ball with a little cut in it, Stuff with catnip (older cats) or for a kitten put a little bell inside or their fav treat.

Put a sock on your hand and play with them and if they bite or scratch will playing it doesn't hurt, And your still getting the one on one time with your kitty.

For a kitten give them a empty tissue box just cut off the plastic bits and their good to go.

Table tennis balls are a great favourite with kittens especially - best on a hard floor where they bounce and move fast, with a lot of clatter. We once had a kittenwhse nickname was Pele due to his extreme skill with the ball.

Also, my cat enjoys tissue paper. You can roll it up into a ball and toss it around for a few seconds. My cat loves the sound and will play with it for hours.
