Getting your Ragdoll cat to take medication can be a difficult task. Cats are suspicious and curious critters by nature; you will not be able to hide the pills in food as you can with a dog.
To administer medication you will have to put the pill far enough in your cat’s mouth to where it will be swallowed. The simplest way to do this is with your cat sitting on your lap. Turn your Ragdoll so it is facing away from you and grab your cat’s upper jaw while tipping its head back. Gently pry the mouth open and drop the pill down your cat’s throat. The pill may require a soft push to get it to go down. This is not going to make your Ragdoll cat happy but is a necessary evil.
After your cat has swallowed the pill give verbal praise and a treat if the medication allows. Be sure and follow all instructions from your veterinarian when administering the medication. If the medicine cannot be given with food, do not give a treat as a reward.
