Baxter has been to the vet (as well as emergency animal hospital). While at the vet he pottied out 3 sesame seed size bladder stones. He has been further checked for more stones, and the vet says there are no more there. He has been thoroughly checked out to find if there are any other problems, but none have been found. When the stones were discovered, the vet said we must change to special prescription food right away - which we did. We tried Royal Canin S/O and Prescription C/D - both canned and dry. He has always chosen chicken based foods in the past, but we've tried fish as well as beef. He is down to 7 lbs. 6 oz. Baxter is 14 months old and getting very weak. The vet said we should go ahead and offer him his old food as well as whatever we can get him to eat. We've tried practically everything. I got him to lick about a teaspoon of plain yogurt from my finger last night. We're very worried about the little guy. Does any one have any ideas or suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your Baxter. Can only suggest some of the stronger smelling foods - perhaps some boneless sardines in tomato sauce, or try warming his food up just for a few seconds in the microwave. You could try him with a little diluted evaporated milk with or without a teaspoon of honey mixed in. Would also try him on some kitten food as he probably needs the calorific content.

Have you ever tried him on raw food (I can't say I am a fan of this but a lot of people swear by it). I think you could try either raw minced beef or perhaps a raw chicken wing.

I do hope you can persuade him to eat. Do keep us updated.

I'm so very sorry to share this... They did a biopsy on Baxter, and we just got the news. Baxter has FIP. As you probably know, the prognosis is really bad. He's starting to stagger and his eyes seem to get oddly unfocused in the evening hours. Baxter is only 14 months old so we are very very sad.

We have two other cats - one about 14 years and one just over 2 years old. The vet has warned us that they may also have it now, and we shouldn't bring any other cats into our home. She said that even if they don't succumb to it, they may have become carriers. We so love our kitties, so this has been a really awful day.

We have no idea where the FIP has come from, but when I'm up to it, I'm planning on calling Baxter's breeder to let her know what has happened.

Thanks so much for your previous advice and caring.

Oh you poor thing. I know exactly how you feel, when I was younger I had my first cat die of Feline Aids and Feline Leukaemia, it was awful. I dont know what FIP is, but my heart and best wishes go out to and your family and your beautiful cats. I have two Ragdolls and honestly do not know what I would do if something happened to them.

Thank you so much for your kindness. FIP is feline infectious peritonitis. I think I've spelled that correctly.
