Hey guys,

Just wondering what sort of foods are OK to give my ragdoll, and what foods are not OK.

For instance - milk. I've heard that milk is actually bad for cats (if drank too much) and cause them to get sick. Also, oatmeal. My mum used to make a little bit of oatmeal for my old cat, Bella (a chinchilla). She adored it when she was young but Im not sure if its awfully healthy? We bought some Weetbix today (the cereal) and my mum thought that our 4 month old ragdoll might like some..

So basically, are these foods OK? And what sort of foods should we avoid/try. Things like chocolate I KNOW is not good for them.

Anywho, Thanks!!

Shazz~

Hi

Cow's milk isn't great for cats. Try some evaporated milk but dilute it a little with water just as a treat now and again. I would stick to kitten food really at this stage as it is packed with everything they need. Once he gets to 7 or 8 months then you can start on the adult food.

You could give the kitten some cooked white fish or boneless sardines for a change. :D

First when Halyssa, our 6 month old Raggiegirl came to us , we bought special Kitten food. For our 5 and 5,5 year old Raggieboys normal adult food.
What happend? The boys took the kittenfood and Halyssa the adult food  . From that time on we only by adult food.

Frank

Speaking of seafood. My last cat, who I mentioned earlier, loved PRAWNS. My mum would eat the main part of the prawns and bella would love to eat the spines.

Any ideas if I should try weetbix?? And just feel free to comment on any foods you've found ur ragdolls dont like or have made them ill. Just so im aware ^.^

Thanks,

Shazzy

I have only had my raggie for 2 weeks. But our breeder told us to give him Lactose free milk, as ragdolls (or all cats, not sure) are lactose intolerant. We give him a little bit of the lactose free long life milk (if you are in Australia, Harvey Fresh sell it) every morning and he is great. Other than that all I am feeding him at the moment is Kitten dry food, and once a week I am giving him a tiny bit of tuna in spring water. When he is older and bigger he will get more variety. But until then that will do.
Thats not to say he doesnt want more though. He loves Philadelphia Cream Cheese, as I discovered when I caught him licking the bowl when I wasnt looking and he is always hovering around food when we eat.

Ours loves fish, shrimp, plain yogurt, asparagus, milk, and eggs. We give him very small amounts of each, not really on a regular basis. Just as sort-of a treat. He gets Fancy Feast and Wellness kibble on a regular basis.

Good Luck with your Rag's food choices. I got my Lily at about 8 mo.s old (she's now almost 3yrs) & everything was wrong with her digestive system. I am a HUGE believer in "all-natural, organic foods" for all living creatures, but my vet put her on Science Diet prescription WD hard food -- Ugh! It works great tho. I don't like the brand. I also give her alittle AvoDerm shrimp/crab wet food mixed in with the hard. If I stray from this routine even a tiny bit it's disaster time again. My vet said absolutely NO milk or milk products for her. OC & Lily
