Examining your Ragdoll cat’s teeth on a regular basis will help you avoid expensive dental problems. Here are things to look for when caring for your cat’s teeth.
If your Ragdoll cat has lesions on the gums or foul smelling breath it could be a warning sign of dental problems. The most common problems Ragdoll cats face with their teeth result from plaque and tartar buildup. If you let this condition continue the buildup can cause gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums and periodontitis is inflammation of the tooth socket lining. Both of these conditions contribute to other health problems include damage to your cat’s internal organs such as the kidneys or heart.
Here are common signs of dental problems you need to keep an eye out for with your Ragdoll cat.
- Swollen, red, or inflamed gums that are bleeding
- Sores in your cat’s mouth
- Excessive drooling
- Lack of appetite
- Foul breath
- Dark spots on the teeth
