If your Ragdoll cat has lesions on the gums or foul smelling breath it could be a warning sign of dental problems. The most common problems Ragdoll cats face with their teeth result from plaque and tartar buildup. If you let this condition continue the buildup can cause gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums and periodontitis is inflammation of the tooth socket lining. Both of these conditions contribute to other health problems include damage to your cat’s internal organs such as the kidneys or heart.
Here are common signs of dental problems you need to keep an eye out for with your Ragdoll cat.
- Swollen, red, or inflamed gums that are bleeding
- Sores in your cat’s mouth
- Excessive drooling
- Lack of appetite
- Foul breath

My ragdoll is only 6 months and already has signs of gingivitis. He eats only dry food. The vet said it can be hereiditary!
He has had chronic URI’s and a problem with an eye trauma.
Any suggestions on the gum issues?
