I adopted a rescue ragdoll. I thought she must of been mistreated because she runs when anyone comes to the house and hides. She comes to us when we call her by her name. She loves sitting on our lap and loves sleeping by my head at night. I`m having problems with her hair. It is matting up and how do I get the clunks of hair to seperate. She crys when I brush her near there and that is why it matted. She loves to be brushed near her head and neck. We have a chocolate lab and they get along great. I was wondering if I need to get another cat to get her to be more friendly. What brand of cat food does everyone use for the best coat? I was giving her Chicken soup for cats but her crap was so stinky.

My female 2 year old ragdoll is constantly doing #2 outside of her litter box. It does not matter if the litter box if very clean or abit dirty she still goes wherever she wants to! It is frustrating my family so much we are thinking of finding a new home for her.

We chose to get a male kitty over female even though I've had experience with male cats "spraying." I guess I'm just partial to male cats and feel a male would make a better, more laid back pet for our four kids. It is possible to have a male cat who doesn't spray, right?

We are getting a Ragdoll soon and can't wait, but reading about some of the behavior problems reminds me of how some cats can be and it's getting me a little nervous. I had a Persian cat who had many behavior and health problems........what am I getting myself into? I will only pray that our little one will be a blessed part of our family for years to come!

I have a 6 month old male ragdoll and ever since he was a kitten he has bitten quite hard when plays. I've always been firm in telling him no and doing the 'face push' but he still wont give it up. However in the past fortnight his mouth has bled a little while doing it and then a few days ago one of his teeth chipped in half. Do you think the biting is due to pain or that he is just being naughty?

My Rag does not have litter box problem. I keep moving his litter box from one place to another but he always find it. Ragdolls are the best cats you cab possibly have.

I had a somewhat similar problem, Jan. My ragdoll would 1) poop in the litter box and then pee outside and 2) he would also not cover his poop in the litter box. We noticed that this tended to happen when he had used the litter box more than once during the day without a cleaning in between. We added a second litter box and that pretty much solved problem 1. My mother (who also has a ragdoll) read in a book that they can be slightly finnicky about their litter. I got in touch with our breeder and she gave me the name of the litter she had used on the kittens. I switched him over and we have not seen problem 2 since. You might try this.

I had the same problem with my cat- he puked every time he ate, because he was scarfing the kibble too fast. I took him to the holistic vet, who recommended a mix of canned WELLNESS and Raw meats. Within a week not only was the puking gone, but he had lost enough weight to be sleek and healthy again, and his coat was shining and smooth.

My other cat had Chronic CRF (kidney failure) and within 2 months on the wet food she is totally healed!! The old vet couldn't believe it!
see www.catinfo.org for a vet's advice on the subject.
It saved my cats life, and save me over $2500 in surgery they wanted to do!

Yep, I was fooled into believing that also, so imagine my surprise the first time I saw clumps of hair all over everything in the house. I read something last night that said they shed their winter coat in the spring, so I'm hoping this thing will improve in a few weeks. If not, I'm gonna have to have her clipped.

I have just gotten my ragdoll cat & she is shedding excessively right now, so if you are looking for one that doesn't shed....you definately don't want to consider a ragdool!

Hi,
I bought a male ragdoll 2 years ago. He was very affectionate to me and my boyfriend but whenever anyone else would come over he would become very Nasty and would even go as far as to walk up and bit our unsuspecting guests. Also Trips to the vet were and interesting experience. He would swipe and hiss the whole time. The poor vet nurses were terrified of him. He sometimes would even swipe at me if he was intimidated by something.
He has settled down now and doesn't attack the vet. Though sometimes he will still 'crack it' at visitors, but other times he instantly falls in love with them and purrs and rolls all over the ground.
I think that ragdolls need time to adjust and fit in. They don't like change very much at all.
With the problem with the kitty litter.... I was always under the impression that Ragdoll kittens were toilet trained by their mothers. I heard that the breeders don't need to train them because the mother teaches them.... My ragdoll Oliver was 8wks old and went straight to the kitty litter as soon as he came home..... it was very surprising!

Do Ragdoll cats commonly have litter box problems? ie. doing #2 outside litterbox.
What are the common health problems related to the breed?
Are they fairly quiet?

I personally don't care for Royal Canin. I try to stay away from any food that uses Wheat and/or Corn Gluten. Royal Canin uses this. The breeder I purchased my kitten from used it. I'm in the process of switching her to Wellness - they have grain free formulas and it is Human-Grade Food.

Hello - I am looking for a cat that sheds little and is not high on the list around children with asthma and allergies - I will not get a hairless cat. I was wondering if the Ragdoll is good for people with allergies and asthma.

What should you do with a ragdoll cat that bites for no reason? He is one year old, declawed and will bite unprovoked. Is this behavior correctable?

My 1 year old Ragdoll has decided to poop in the kitchen on my hard wood floors.
This just started about a month ago. He had a stomach virus and pooped there to show me that he was sick but, now he is well and about every two days he decides to poop in the kitchen. What gives? Is he just being lazy about going to the litter box?

Lexus "Happy Pants" as he is our resident clown. He loves to run, play and invent ways to make us laugh. A trick my wife taught him when he was but 3 months old was to retrieve a drapery rope when thrown a long distance. Lexus learned that trick in minutes and even today almost nine years later, the rope is one of his favorite toys as he retrieves it and drops it at our feet. His brother, Ty is happy to watch and not participate. Love them both.

One of our 2 8+ yr old Ragdolls has developed a "mysterious" illness. First vet diagnosis; urinary blockage, followed by two catheters 3 days apart, blood & urine work with "normal" parameters. Now he, "Ty", eats canned food, drinks water and uses the box. However he has occassional wobbles and throw up periods. I mistakenly changed can food brands which I will restore because since the change he began throwing up. Hopefully the switch back will help. Vet is unable to fully diagnose other than "mild anemia" which their vitamins will help. We don't know what to do. The other Ragdoll, Lexus, is nicknamed "happy pants" as he is full of comedy and energy even at 21 lbs but now wants nothing to do with Ty. Help!

It is very likely that your ragdoll is in heat. Any cat goes into heat at approx. 6 months of age. If you plan on breeding her, I would get some training and advice first- check with TICA breeders. You will need to get registered and understand the expense involved to make it a responsible investment for you. If you randomly breed her, you will not be able to sell the kittens as Ragdolls, since she is already mixed with Himilayan. Please keep her inside until you get her fixed or breed her, (inside either way). I personally feel she should get spayed (fixed) as soon as possible, or she may get out of the house is search of a mate and end up lost, hit by a car or stolen. Many people know the value of special breed cats and steal them to sell. Ragdolls do not have the ability to defend themselves (against other cats or other animals)and are very trusting, therefore they must be kept indoors to survive. Genetically, speaking, no one has any way of knowing if the Himilayan traits will protect her. I would not take the chance. If this is not her first heat she will go into heat soon, after the first, at the rate of 2-3 times a year. Her softer meowing may be one of two reasons; she is in the beginning of her heat, or the nature of her breed is non-agressive/not quite as loud. Has she had her immunizations? Either way, if you want to keep this kitty healthy take her to a Vet. As soon as possible, then make your decision. Hope this has helped.

hi there, my ragdoll had a similar problem, its worth taking them to a vet. in case of my kitten it was fip, which we are now treating. the vet said that unfortunately fip is more common in pedigree cats.

hope your cat is ok and the problems sorts itself

I read on some site that only 2 longhaired cats can produce longhaired kittens. And if one is long and one is short the kittens will be short haired. Is that true?

Hi I have an 8 month old ragdoll/ himilayan cross female cat. She has never been outside and recently she tries to get out every chance she can and once she is outside she starts mewing but doesn not mew in the house. Could it be she is in heat. She is not overly affectionate compared to usual but I find this very strange or is it just because it is spring? I have not seen her in heat yet unless this is it. If I take her to a stud will she go into heat? Also can this breed be a successful outside cat? There was a mouse in our house, we were not even aware of it and my husband saw her playing with what he thought was one of her toys and it was a real mouse she had caught.

I am bringing my mother's 3 yrd old ragdoll across country to my home (my mother passed away) which is already ruled by two cats (an 18 yr old and a 16 yr old). I adopted my cats that had been declawed. My mother's cat has claws. I need guidance on how to introduce the her ragdoll to my cats (a very skiddish persian/mainecoon, and a alpha tabby). All cats are spade/neutered. I dont know my mother's cat very well, but since my mother's death, she has not recieved much attention as Dad is not a cat person. I already plan to separate them for a few days, and have built a door so that they will be able to see one another for as long as it take. Brini (the ragdoll) is driving my Dad nuts, as she is a talker, and particularly always wants to be fed. Any comments and ideas are welcome.
Thanks.

I have been feeding my Ragdoll kitten (now 10 mos) Royal Canin and his coat is BEAUTIFUL. The veternarian and others have agreed that Royal Canin (while it is a bit more expensive than most) is a perfect brand name food.

I have tried the tin foil trick and my ragdoll couldn't care less, at first he wasn't sure about it but after a few days he would rub against it and eventually started to chew it. This is my first ragdoll and I am in-love wtih him.

I bought my wife a Ragdoll 4 years ago. Most of what is written here is true. However, don't be mis-lead, Ragdoll cats absolutely DO SHED.

Our Ragdoll is a female, classic blue bi-color; 12 pounds. (Females are smaller than males.) She is extremely smart. We got her when she was 9 weeks old; she plays "fetch" like a dog! Sometimes, she will howl, with a paper wad in front of her on the floor, until it is tossed and she can run after it!

Our Ragdoll has a terrific personality. She is a great addition to the house. (We have no other pets.) But . . . if you decide to get a Ragdoll, keep a brush handy!!

My Ragdoll has recently developed a undesirable behavior of defecating on my dining room rug. I also took him to the vets and the only thing he found was coilitis and I am currently administering an antibiotic. Is this a behavior problem, outside of company at Christmas nothing has changed in the household. He has never had any behavior problems before and I certainly will try a change of diet.

I feed my 2 rags canned fancy feast and Nature's Best by Science Diet but it sounds like I should look to something else--thank you for the input.

I have two blue mink ragdoll kittens who are sisters. Both female. Violet resembles Louie quite a bit. She is mitted with a blaze between her eyes and a white spot under her nose. The other kitten, Ava is a lynx. They are 7 1/2 months old. Ava weights 7 lbs. and Violet weights 6.5 lbs. They seem a bit bulky in the stomach area. Should I be concerned about their weight? I'm afraid they will be huge when they are full grown! The breeder told me they would weigh 8 lbs. fully grown. What a fib!!! Do you want to see photos of the kittens?

Children are not evil. I wish you wouldn't use that term regarding children. Yes, they might show a lack of judgment sometimes but children are not inherently evil.

This looks like as good a place to ask my question as anywhere else. I don't even know for sure if the kitten I have is a Ragdoll or part Ragdoll or what. He's a stray that was given to me by friends. From the descriptions I've read he could be. Do any owners of Ragdolls notice their cat drooling? Its not bad but when he totally relaxes he drools. Is this part of the relaxed part of the breed or what? Nothing is wrong with his mouth and he's been doing this ever since I got him.

You would think the blood tests would show something but you never know. That is so sad. I hope you find something to help him.

Children are not usually evil. I've found through the years that its usually the adults who don't like animals that fit that category. Children might do foolish things but no child is evil.

We were fortunate enough to have been adopted by a beautiful liliac point ragdoll last summer. He showed up at our back door nearly starved to death. We had been feeding another feral cat that looked pretty thin and ours just took over. We named our ragdoll Mau as he followed my husband and I around the yard mauing constantly. It is also Egyptian for cat. We caught him, took him to the vet for testing, neutering and shots. He didn't weigh enough to register. Now he weighs in at about 12 pounds and just keeps growing. He in strictly an indoor cat now and has no desire to go outside. He rarely "maus" now. The only difficulty we have with him is his constant harrassment of my 10-year-old Tortise Shell Calico. She does not want to play with him and growls and hisses when he is near. He jumps at her and counts cou by just touching her.

Hey I got my little ragdoll kitten, Lola at only 7 weeks old, and I've had her about a week now. She is adorable and playful, although the first few days she was a handful. These cats can be aggressive, but mostly she is a sweetheart. she loves to be held and cuddled, she'll purr and greet you at the door when you come home. Just know that not ALL ragdolls are going to be "docile" so make sure you know what you are getting into when you get one.

Our Ragdoll loves to play with my big blush/powder face (Cosmetic)brush. He carries it everywhere and plays with it on hours. He'll bring it to me sometimes to toss so he can attack it "on the prowl"

I have two male Ragdoll kittens (8 months old). I love them to death but one of them has taken to peeing on my leather furniture. I have tried the squirt bottle, Feliway spray. I am at my wits end. Does anyone have this problem? Help in Southern California!! Thank you.
